What's not covered

Cover starts 24 hours after you pay us for the policy or the “Cover Start” date shown in your schedule, whichever is later. Claims made within the proceeding 24 hours are limited to local recovery of up to 10 miles, and a £40 charge is payable for any claim made during this period.

Breakdown claims where a permanent repair has not been taken following a previous breakdown or temporary repair, unless the breakdown happens on the journey to the garage or dealership.

Any Vehicle which does not have valid tax or MOT when the breakdown happens, unless legally exempt when the breakdown happens.

Any costs if you have not maintained the vehicle in a roadworthy condition or where the vehicle cannot be safely and legally transported using a standard transporter.

Any costs if the recovery operator cannot complete the service because the vehicle is not carrying: a spare wheel that is in safe working order (unless the vehicle is not designed to carry a spare wheel); a serviceable tyre inflation kit; or the correct locking wheel nut key (not applicable to motorcycles).

Vehicles with a laden weight in excess of 5.5 metric tonnes (3,500 kg) in gross vehicle laden weight (including any load being carried).

Vehicles that are more than 7 metres in length, 2.55 metres in width and 3 metres in height.

Missed connections; if you arrive late to a motorail, or ferry departure point at the start of a booked journey to or from the UK and Europe, which you would have been on time for if the breakdown did not happen, we will provide a contribution of up to £250 for the first missed connection.

Contribution of up to £500 towards overnight accommodation for you and your passengers (£150 per person) if the garage or dealership cannot complete repairs the same working day (or the next working day if the breakdown happens outside of business hours).

What's not covered

Exclusions set out under sections 1 “Breakdown Assistance with Local Recovery in the UK” and Section 2 “Breakdown assistance with National Recovery in the UK”.

Cost of replacement parts or materials.

Recovery costs exceeding £60 if the breakdown happens on a European motorway.

Vehicles with a laden weight in excess of 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes) in gross vehicle laden weight (including any load being carried).

Vehicles that are more than 7 metres in length, 2.55 metres in width or 3 metres in height.

The vehicle must not be outside of the UK for more than 90 calendar days in any one period of insurance.

The maximum duration of any one trip to Europe is not more than 31 calendar days, or the duration for ‘Single trip European Recovery’ if one is specified in your schedule.

What's covered

We’ll come and assist you at your home address, or if you breakdown within a quarter mile radius of your home address.

We will pay the recovery operator to spend up to one hour to make temporary repairs to your vehicle, depending on the vehicle fault.

If we are unable to repair your vehicle, we will tow your vehicle to a suitable garage or dealership or a single destination up to 10 miles’ driving distance.

What's covered

Keycare 5 Star administered by Key Care Limited and underwritten by AA Insurance Company Limited. Claim up to £1500 if your car, home or office keys are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged.

Motoring Legal Solutions administered by ARAG Plc and underwritten by HDI Global Specialty SE. An accident response service and protects the insured against legal costs and expenses up to £100,000 for losses that are not covered by the insureds motor insurance policy in the event the vehicle is damaged by an accident that is not the insureds fault.

Whilst your vehicle is at the garage being repaired following breakdown assistance, we will cover the costs of a hire car.

Breakdown Cover for incidents with your caravan or trailer.

A second choice of onward transportation within 10 miles if the garage of your choice was closed at the time of your breakdown.

What's not covered

If the garage of your choice was closed at the time of your initial breakdown recovery, we will provide a second movement of the vehicle of no more than 10 miles. An additional charge will be incurred to move the vehicle further than 10 miles.

Keys not attached to the key fob at the time of the loss won't be insured

Legal claims that do not have a 51% chance or more of success

Hire car costs for more than three days, or a max limit of £100. Claiming the cost of a hire car whilst your vehicle of being repaired is done on a pay and claim basis. Rescuemycar.com cannot arrange the hire of the car on your behalf. Receipts, invoices and dated proof of hire car purchase will be required to make a claim to cover the costs.

Caravan or trailer must be towed by the vehicle covered under Rescuemycar.com.

Cover within the first 24 hours after purchase. Claims made in the following 24 hours is then limited to local recovery (10 miles) and a charge of £40 is payable for a claim made within this period
